Harold V. “Hap” Myers, 75, of Mansfield, passed away early Monday morning, February 12, 2018, at Oak Grove Manor in Mansfield, Ohio. He was born April 10, 1942, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Coyle Vinton and Carrie (Cole) Myers.

Hap graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1961. He then entered the U.S. Air Force on July 5, 1961 and retired on April 30, 1997. He served three tours of duty in the Vietnam War performing many rescue missions. Hap also served in the countries of Laos, Saudi Arabia and the continent of Africa. During his storied military career, he received multiple awards and was a valued member of his flight crew. He remained a proud veteran throughout the years and was a life member of Amvets Post #26, V.F.W. Post #9943, the Sons of Herman, Bellville American Legion and 40 et 8 Club.

Hap was a very descriptive nickname for Harold. He was a friendly man who was always happy and laughing. His jovial demeanor was contagious and you couldn’t help but be upbeat when you were in his presence. Hap was an avid card player and especially enjoyed euchre and pinochle. Preferring to spend his time outdoors, he was also an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by two children, Eric (Joanna) Myers of Greenwich and Chantal (Adam) Sellers of Gahanna, OH; a grandson, Michael Myers of Columbus; two sisters, Peggy Jean Nash and Virginia Reichert; two nieces, Kim Nash and Landa Page; and a nephew, Mike Reichert. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three siblings, Mary Jane, Wayne and Dixie.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The 40 et 8 Club will recite a brief service beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the funeral service will immediately follow with Rev. Bonnie Peltomaa officiating. Memorial contributions honoring the service of Harold may be made to the Mansfield Chapter #21 of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans), 1100 W. Fourth St., Mansfield, OH 44906.
